A quick summary of this machine: If you cannot afford to buy the most recent model such as Airsense 10 or the Airsense 11 or the Dreamstation 2, then this older model machine will work just as good as the newer machines. This Resmed S9 auto machine comes equipped with everything that the newer models have including the 'auto' feature and the 'smartstart' feature and more. This machine is just as good as the newer, more expensive models and it is selling at less than half the price of the newer machines. This machine and a mask is all you need to start using this machine tonight. Just plug it in, put your mask on, and fall asleep - the machine will already be programmed with our most popular settings that we have found to work the best for most people.
This machine is part of the S9 series which came out before the S10 series. The S9 is an older model. That's why we recommend starting with a Resmed Airsense 10 (S10) because it is the most up-to-date CPAP machine currently on the market.
There are several models of the S9 such as the Vpap, S/T, Escape, and the Elite. This model is the Autoset model.

CONDITION: We have lightly used machines for $450 and very used machines for $400. Pre-owned, in excellent. The S9 AutoSet is ResMed’s premium AutoSet device designed to help you comfortably transition to CPAP therapy. Using ResMed’s enhanced AutoSet technology, the S9 AutoSet automatically adjusts breath by breath, even as your needs change – hourly, nightly and from season to season – to deliver the lowest pressure necessary.
SETTINGS: We have restored the settings on this machine to its original factory settings. And we have UNLOCKED the machine so you can use the machine without a clinic or other overseeing agency to monitor you. We have turned on Smartstart so the machine will start the moment you put on your mask. And the Autoramp has been turned on so the machine will slowly increase the pressure while you fall asleep – that way - you won’t have the highest pressure hitting you right away. And we have set your max and min pressure at 10 and 4 respectively. In addition, we have turned on the EPR function so you will not have to feel the air blowing on you all night long. Furthermore, we have modified several other settings to maximize comfort and oxygen intake. These are the settings all of our customers love because they can simply put the mask on, and the machine starts working automatically and perfectly for them. Be careful with other sellers because the settings on their machine will be different.

Additional Settings Recommendations: We recommend not using the humidifier at all if you can tolerate the dry throat and dry nasal passages. Cleaning the humidifier and filling it up with water is so cumbersome for people that many give up on CPAP/BIPAP therapy altogether. We want to see you succeed so, hopefully, this was a valuable tip!
Humidifier & Heated Hose: If you decide that you would rather use the humidifier -- because it provides moisture and heat to your throat and nasal passages -- which many people prefer warm and moist throat and nasal passages rather than painfully dry throat and nasal passages. To increase your humidity, follow these three steps ---- Step 1: All of our machines come set at a humidify level of 4. Simply put water in your water tank -- fill it up to the line shown on the water tank -- and you are all set. Step 2: If the level 4 humidity is not enough heat and moisture for you, then we will show you how to increase it to the highest humidity level -- level 8. Step 3: If you have tried the level 8 humidity for a few days and it is still not enough heat and moisture for you, then, you should get the Heated Hose for the Resmed S9 machine.
Next, use a thin pillow to put your head on so your mask is not pressing too tightly against the pillow. Sleeping on your left or right side is recommended. Research shows that sleeping on your left side is healthiest because it prevents GERD and other issues. It’s perfectly fine to move from left to right and back and forth during the night.
Maintenance: If you do not use the humidifier, then you will cut out 99% of your maintenance. If you do use the humidifier, then fill it up to the line shown on the humidifier. You are supposed to use only distilled water for the humidifier so you do not get a lot of mineral deposits – but you can use tap water if you want. Also, you are supposed to change the water in the humidifier every night, but many people do not. Just be sure to rinse it out with warm soap and water once a week to keep anything from growing in there and to rinse out any mineral deposits.
The filter is good for 6 – 12 months, and there is a new one already in installed, so you will not need to change that for a long time. Some people change their filter monthly to help their machine last longer, but this is not necessary. And you are supposed to change your hose every 3 months, but most people push it to every 6 – 12 months. These hoses can last much longer than that – as long as they stay clean. To be safe, at least look at everything a couple times a year.

Do you think you have sleep apnea? Has your spouse been complaining about the noises you make at night? Do you snore at night or make a snort-type noise while you sleep? Do you find yourself gasping for air at night or choking for air? Do you have night sweats? Technically, you are supposed to have a sleep study before starting CPAP/BIPAP therapy, but most of the people that contact us cannot afford a sleep study. The good news is – it’s not that difficulty to tell if you have sleep apnea. And even more good news is – it can’t hurt to give CPAP/BIPAP therapy a shot!
